Breathe Easier:
Power Vac cleans out house dust that can cause allergic and asthmatic reactions so you can breathe easier. Many companies try to sell you products to improve your health in your home.
Power Vac believes that a clean ventilation system with proper filtration is a major factor in providing a healthy indoor environment. There are a great number of "Sanitizers" and "Disinfectants" available and often sold as "add ons" to basic duct cleaning, but caution must be exercised. These products may cause reactions for people suffering from allergies or chemical sensitivities. Judicious use of proper products can be beneficial to the occupant; the key is proper use of proper products.

Less dust, less cleaning:
Clean ducts mean clean registers, clean drapes, clean walls, clean rugs, clean air, clean breathing. House cleaning, especially dusting can be greatly reduced with clean ventilation systems and proper filtration. The most common filters used are not efficient enough to stop most particulate. Higher efficiency filters with a clean system is an excellent way to reduce housework.
Residential Duct Cleaning:
We specialize in cleaning the dust from your heating, ventilation and air conditioning system so you and your family enjoy cleaner air in your home. Power Vac uses custom-built vacuum "trucks", with powerful "engines", which draw out all the dust, soot, and debris through 10-inch hoses. A number of our competitors use portable units for residential duct cleaning. These are usually 110 volt, about the same as a vacuum cleaner.

Suction is applied to isolated zones. Compressed air, pneumatic tools and brushes are used to get all particulate and debris airborne and thus drawn out of the ventilation system, safely and cleanly to the filter box in the truck. Thus thoroughly cleaning the interior of all ductwork, zone by zone, until the system is entirely cleaned. All registers and grills are removed, cleaned and reinstalled. The air handlers are cleaned, including the fan and coils, leaving the total system clean. To do the job right, and professionally, it takes at least 4 hours per home; Power Vac will do 2 houses per day maximum.

Your Indoor Environment is more important than ever these days. Power Vac of Nova Scotia has many years experience in Nova Scotia improving indoor air quality. Originally we were primarily a Duct Cleaning company but have grown to become an Indoor Environment Specialist in response to customer needs. When called to look at the ventilation system specifically, the solutions to our customer's problems have involved other areas of the building envelope. We have built strategic alliances with suppliers, microbiologists, industrial hygienists, consultants, engineers and architects.

Mold/Mildew:
Many experts feel that microbial growth will become the number one Indoor Environmental problem. There are two approaches to solving this hazard. One is to ensure that the moisture required for microbial growth is no longer present; the other is to treat the area in question with a chemical to kill the growth. Power Vac is a licensed applicator of two systems that deal with microbial growth. The Aegis Microbe ShieldTM is a unique chemistry that permanently bonds to surfaces to dramatically reduce mold. Almost all other pesticides (antimicrobials, fungicides, disinfectants, sanitizers, etc.) act by leaching, volatilizing into the air, or dissolving in a liquid. Since Aegis does not dissipate or leach, it can't be absorbed by the organism (or by you). Instead it bonds to a surface and when the microbe comes in contact, it mechanically ruptures the cell membrane of the organism.

The KEFA Biorid Micropore System deactivates present mold and prevents future growth by maintaining a dry surface environment that is not conducive to multiplication. We continue to use traditional antimicrobial treatments in some instances, keeping in mind that once they leached, volatilized or dissolved; they have lost their effectiveness. Also once spent, they may contribute to the problem since water is left in the treated area.

Commercial and Industrial Duct Cleaning:
We are all aware of the increase in concern for the indoor environment at work. The terms "Sick Building Syndrome" and "Building Related Illness" are now common. Power Vac has worked in hospitals, schools, office buildings, and industrial plants for many years. We have performed robotic video inspections and robotic cleaning services in buildings. Please contact us if you would like references or testimonials. With the complexity or commercial and industrial buildings, it would be best if Power Vac discussed individual situations directly or did a site visit to analyze your building. Please go to our contact page to arrange this.

Asbestos/Heavy Metal Abatement:
Although we started as primarily a duct cleaning company, our growth as a professional contractor driven by customer needs has led us to many additional facets of the total Indoor Environment Industry.

Power Vac was a pioneer in the asbestos abatement industry. The methodology developed in the asbestos industry was then applied to other hazardous material abatement issues. We have been involved in the handling of heavy metals such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and magnesium as well as silica and PCB’s. Although personal protective equipment and disposal regulations vary, the basic principles of encapsulation, respirators, and the application of “negative pressure” are common. Similar methods are also applied to some forms of duct cleaning and mold remediation.

Due to the complexity of this area of Power Vac’s business, the best approach would be to go to the Contact Us page and correspond with us on any questions you might have.
